Rush hour during the new coronavirus pandemic in New York City is a strange sight. After the state implemented stay-at-home orders for non-essential businesses, traffic now moves rather smoothly. But, in the city that never sleeps, there is great panic behind closed doors.

Although it’s April, the weather still carries a bit of a chill here in sunny Southern California. Even through the cold and heavy rain with an outside temperature of 49 degrees Fahrenheit (9 degrees Celsius), Tzu Chi volunteers were committed to completing their delivery of medical supplies to Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center.

While several states have raised the alarm on the spread of the new coronavirus disease, also known as COVID-19, Tzu Chi USA has been educating service users, volunteers, and staff on the importance of taking precautions and is canceling or postponing planned activities. Yet, while risk was still considered relatively low in the United States in February, the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation hosted a medical outreach in Bakersfield, CA, on February 23rd.

The Tzu Chi Alhambra Clinic held its first Tzu Chi Healthy Community workshop of the year on February 9th. Though the topic was mainly about integrative East-West medicine approaches for insomnia, both Ricky Chang, MD, and Yumin Cho, Ph.D in Chinese Medicine, shared information regarding COVID-19, or the new coronavirus pandemic, including recommendations on how to best protect themselves from infection.
