Our Health Education Program provides individuals with an array of health education classes each year. These classes cover topics such as chronic diseases, osteoporosis, myocardial infarction, mental health, respiratory diseases, menopausal syndrome, eye diseases, arthritis, medication, dental care, and more, to promote wellness, prevention, and support within our communities.
Launched in 2016, Tzu Chi’s Cancer Awareness Program endeavors to strengthen awareness, prevention, and early detection of cancer through Mobile Clinic outreach events, free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, and colon cancer screenings.
The Tzu Chi Cancer Support Group (CSG) formed in 2003 to extend care to those navigating the difficult circumstances that arise when living with cancer. The group provides monthly cancer-related lectures, encourages sharing of personal experiences, provides caregiver consultations, telephone consultations, as well as guidance and recommendations for memorial and burial services meeting the requirements of the family.
The Tzu Chi Chronic Renal Failure Support Group began in 2005 to provide Chinese-speaking patients with information regarding medicine, social benefits, nutrition, self-care, as well as offer emotional support.
Our Healthy Living Programs encourage individuals to take steps to better their health through a variety of services.
In partnership with the City of Hope, American Diabetes Association, and Asian Pacific Diabetes Coalition, our Chronic Metabolic Disease Management Program began in 2014 and has since expanded to include patients with hypertension, high cholesterol, and hyperglycemia to enhance metabolic health and help participants live a better life. Our Healthy Cooking Class provides a hands-on cooking course instructing individuals on how to prepare healthy, satisfying, and hassle-free meals in thirty minutes. This course is guided by experienced health professionals and nutritionists.
A licensed acupuncturist is available to provide free traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) counseling services on a monthly basis concerning lifestyle, diet, and nutrition, for parents of students enrolled in Tzu Chi Academy in Boston. We have also provided in-home acupuncture services to qualifying individuals in the Boston area since 2013. These services are offered on a monthly or weekly basis depending upon patient need and physician availability.
