And yet, it was a joy to undertake for the volunteers from Tzu Chi USA’s Orlando Service Center, knowing the relief it would bring to the staff at two healthcare facilities in Gainesville. Tzu Chi Medical Foundation Volunteers Attract Large Crowds at Anti-Pandemic Kit Event

As volunteers set up their booth in front of The Tzu Chi Alhambra Medical Center in Southern California, a slew of visitors showed up to collect pandemic-prevention safety supplies. Some attendants had heard about the event through the media, others were leaving their appointments at the clinic, and several were just passing by the event and became curious. Volunteers met people who were in need of supplies for different reasons, but their goal was the same: to protect themselves and those they love from contracting COVID-19.

Mobile Vision Clinic Resumes, Helping Students See the World Clearly Again

As the number of COVID-19 infections slowed in the U.S., Tzu Chi volunteers resumed the Mobile Vision Clinic in school districts in El Monte, CA, where they prescribed new eyeglasses for students from disadvantaged families. The kids couldn’t wait to put on their new glasses, and laughed heartily behind their masks, now that they could see the world clearly again.

2021 Vision: Tzu Chi’s Mobile Clinic Brings Optometry Services to Students

As digital learning became the norm during the pandemic, children were straining their eyes more and lacking free services from their schools. Even before the onset of COVID-19, many students didn’t receive the proper vision care needed to succeed. Tzu Chi’s Mobile Vision Clinic brings optometrists on-site to schools, delivering top of the line services to students who need it most. In October of 2021, students at Walter Francis Bishop Elementary were able to get their eyesight checked and many of them were excited at the prospect of receiving free glasses.

Tzu Chi Medical Foundation Unites With El Monte Community Members for a Winter Vaccination Event

As of October 29, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5 through 11, offering millions of children and families a way to help protect themselves against the spread of COVID-19 — while also supporting communities, and paving the way toward regaining a greater sense of normalcy. With this, Tzu Chi Medical Foundation (TCMF) immediately began contacting school districts in Southern California. Soon, Mountain View School District in El Monte, CA, joined Valle Lindo School District in South El Monte, CA, in administering the vaccine to parents and students at the Valle Lindo School District Office and Madrid Middle School. The community vaccination event took place on November 19 and November 20, and a total of 334 doses were given.
