The role of the healthcare sector includes the treatment and prevention of diseases in addition to maintaining one’s health.
At Tzu Chi’s Mobile Clinics, I have enjoyed assessing and attending to patient needs as a volunteer. This has provided me insight into marginalized and underserved patient populations’ health disparities, which I have further explored through my qualitative research.

The Tzu Chi Medical Foundation hosted its annual appreciation dinner on December 14, 2019, for all those who’ve helped improve and advance its humanistic mission during the year! A drum show kicked off the event, lifting the spirits of attendees.
Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, established in 1993 as a charitable nonprofit 501(c)(3) free clinic, is a community-based volunteer-driven organization committed to providing patient-centered medical care to communities in need locally and internationally.
The weather was just beginning to become cooler in September of 2019. Gathered in the Las Vegas Salvation Army Activity Center was a line of people who are homeless in the area. It was a rare opportunity for them to get their teeth and eyes assessed and treated at no cost. For Tzu Chi volunteer doctors, a relieved smile after helping someone with their medical needs was more than enough payment. Over 100 patients were seen by the end of the day.
With improved methodologies and new healthcare services, Tzu Chi’s Medical Outreach mission to Milpitas ensures a healthier and better future for the community.
Tzu Chi Medical Foundation has been sending medical volunteers from the United States, Canada, Taiwan, and more, three to four times a year to offer vulnerable residents access to quality medical care that includes consultations, dental treatments, pain therapies, ophthalmology, and pharmaceutical services.
3,768 patients received life-changing medical care throughout the medical outreach mission lead by TIMA medical in Mexico.
