As the pandemic has progressed, the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation has procured and donated personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizing supplies to more than a thousand medical institutions across the United States. In meeting with many of their representatives, staff and volunteers at Tzu Chi Medical discovered how constricted time was for lunch breaks at healthcare facilities. As a result, a new initiative was born: “A Better Meal, A Better Earth,” where, beginning May 19, 2020, Tzu Chi Medical began donating vegetarian lunches to healthcare workers alongside PPE donations.

The drive from San Jose in California’s Silicon Valley to Rancho Cielo Youth Campus, located in Salinas, Monterey County, is scenic. There is much to enjoy, first along Santa Cruz Hwy 17, with tall trees lining both sides of the state highway, then the gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean along Cabrillo Hwy 1, which hugs the coastline.

Springtime on Long Island, NY, seldom passes without its annual car parade. But this year’s festivities took on a more honorific tone. On Sunday, April 19, classic cars drove by several hospitals across Long Island to bring cheer to healthcare heroes. At the same time – Tzu Chi Long Island volunteers were out delivering joy in their own way: through the donations of personal protective equipment, or PPE, and food supplies.
