If eyes are the windows to the soul, then it is ever so important that people take care of them. Just as it is
Dr. Denq has been an incredible Tzu Chi volunteer for many years. After over two decades of kind, compassionate service, he has taken the reins at Tzu Chi Medical Foundation (TCMF), stepping up as Chief Executive Officer after the retirement of the dedicated Dr. William Keh. With his extensive experience both as a practicing physician and head of one of Tzu Chi’s Medical clinics, Dr. Denq is sure to guide Tzu Chi’s medical mission to new heights.
In 2010, the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation (TCMF) in the United States established a Tzu Chi Community Clinic in Wilmington, CA, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles. With compassionate outpatient services, medical outreach activities, and food distribution events, the clinic has become like another home for many locals. And ten years after its founding, this home energized by love and care still endures.
As a response to the spike in new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 witnessed across the nation as states begin the gradual process of reopening, Tzu Chi Medical Foundation (TCMF) called its supporters and volunteers to action, urging the donation of personal protective equipment, and delivering plant-based meals, sticky rice dumplings, and fruit, to dedicated frontline health workers.
As the pandemic has progressed, the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation has procured and donated personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizing supplies to more than a thousand medical institutions across the United States. In meeting with many of their representatives, staff and volunteers at Tzu Chi Medical discovered how constricted time was for lunch breaks at healthcare facilities. As a result, a new initiative was born: “A Better Meal, A Better Earth,” where, beginning May 19, 2020, Tzu Chi Medical began donating vegetarian lunches to healthcare workers alongside PPE donations.
